Questions and Answers about Mindfulness Painting

At first, I was a bit nervous because I never paint but then I found myself playing with color and “loosening up”.  It was very liberating and relaxing, and I came away trusting my intuition more. ~Astrid C.

What is Mindfulness Painting?

Mindfulness Painting Experience is meditation with a paint brush. It is an opportunity to explore, discover and interact with your intuition and creativity.

Other ways Mindfulness Painting has been described include:

Meditation •  Healing •  Journal-keeping •  Quieting the inner critic• Intimate Resource for living a full life •  Release from stress and competition •  Rest and Renew of Spirit •  Feed your Professional Art Process •  Release yourself from Creative Blocks •  Life-enhancing • Team Building.

How do I know if I am accessing my intuition?

Your intuition comes from your body and all of your senses. It is subtle. It’s not as loud as your logical mind. You may hear a soft whisper in your ear or feel a sensation in your body. When you are painting, you may be drawn to a particular color and your energy level may rise. Everyone is different. The benefits are numerous.

Can I come to class just to have fun?

Yes! Mindfulness Painting Experience is all about having fun. You are encouraged to play, use color, allow yourself the freedom to create whatever shows up for you. Creativity comes from play.

What if I think I have no artistic ability?

We all have an inner artist. Some of us lost the belief in our ability along the way. We may have been discouraged from creating. Remember this experience is more about the process of allowing your inner artist to paint than producing a beautiful painting.

Will people judge my paintings?

No. In class, we asked that no one comment on another’s painting. Even if you think that someone’s painting is beautiful. When we judge, we set up expectations. Expectations also set up competition. This process is about accessing the authentic you.

Will the experience of Mindfulness Painting help me with writer’s block?

The process will help to dissolve what seems to be getting in the way of your creative process.

Is this an art therapy class?

Mindfulness Paint is a great complement to psychotherapy. It is a safe space to paint those deep feelings. It is an opportunity to paint the emotions as a means of healing and self-discovery from the emotional content that emerges.
